FORNACIS at the International Scientific Meeting PLVMBVM HISPANIAE. Lead Production in Roman Hispania

The FORNACIS project was present at the international meeting PLVMBVM HISPANIAE, held in La Carolina (Jaén) on March 28 and 29, 2025. Team members A. Rodríguez Díaz, I. Pavón Soldevila, D. M. Duque Espino, M. Hunt Ortiz, A. Roldán Díaz, and Ester Boixereu i Vila presented a paper titled “The Exploitation of Argentiferous Galena in the Oppidum of Fornacis (Cerro Hornachuelos, Ribera del Fresno, Badajoz).” This contribution includes the results of the geoarchaeological and archaeomining survey of the mining domain of this oppidum, as well as the initial advances in the elemental and isotopic composition analyses of the minerals and by-products from the main mines surveyed, including Cerro de las Cruces and La Matilla (Hornachos).
